BOP is short for Business Owners Package. Insurance companies came up with BOP products in order to simplify the insurance needs of business owners. Operating a business presents each owner with unique risk exposures. Rather than try to piece together an insurance policy with individual coverage, the BOP packages coverage that the majority of business owners need. Sometimes you will see included coverages on the BOP policy that may not apply to your business. In most cases you cannot remove these included coverages because they form part of the BOP.
The BOP can, however, be customized to your particular business operation. Some business have employees drive their own vehicles in the course of business or they may use rental vehicles for special jobs. In order for the BOP provide coverage in the case of an accident, the owner would need hired & non-owned coverage added to the BOP. Another example would be a restaurant owner who relies on the food on location to operate. If a covered loss were to occur and cause food spoliage, a food spoilage endorsement would have to be part of the BOP in order to have coverage.
Although the BOP is sufficient coverage in most cases, it is important that one of our agents review your business operation to find any gaps in coverage. Do not assume that coverage is in place. In doubt, ask one of our agents.
